And The New Companion Is...

Jenna-Louise Coleman

Jenna-Louise Coleman has been announced as the actress who will play the Doctor's new companion in season 7. The 25 year old actress from Blackpool is best known for her appearances as lesbian, Jasmin Thomas in the british soap, Emmerdale and Lindsey James in school drama, Waterloo Road. She also starred as Connie in Captain America: The First Avenger.

Jenna had this to say:

"I want to get started already. I'm a huge fan of the show. Matt Smith did my audition with me. It was fun and I felt like we were in it together. I'm beyond excited, I can't wait to get cracking; working alongside Matt I know is going to be enormous fun and a huge adventure."

Of her favourite companion "Between Billie Piper and Karen Gillan."

Steven Moffat had the following to say:

"We saw a lot of brilliant actresses. But Jenna was the only person going faster than Matt - he had to keep up. Amy and Rory will leave in a final encounter with the Weeping Angels in ep 5. Not everyone gets out alive and I mean it this time."

It has also been announced that there will be 6 episodes this year, including the Christmas Special. Then 8 next year. Jenna's character will first be seen in the Christmas Special.

There are rumours abounding that Jenna's character will not be human, but nothing official has been released on this as yet. Alongside the Weeping Angels the Daleks are also rumoured to make a return.

Moffat left us with this:

"It's not often the Doctor meets someone who can talk even faster than he does, but it's about to happen. Jenna is going to lead him his merriest dance yet. And that's all you're getting for now. Who she's playing, how the Doctor meets her, and even where he finds her, are all part of one of the biggest mysteries the Time Lord ever encounters. Even by the Doctor's standards, this isn't your usual boy meets girl."
