| The January '11 Issue of the newly re-designed Doctor Who Magazine. |
Hello, what I'm hoping are soon to become faithful readers. This isn't my next official entry concerning the second DW story The Daleks, but just a quick, short opinion piece on the layout and contents of the newly designed Doctor Who Magazine.
Most of the old favourites are still present, Production Notes, Interviews, Beyond The Tardis, Gallifrey Guardian, Comic Strip, Time Team, and Galaxy Forum. Plus some new regulars Battle of Wits, in which the reader is given a fan debate topic (the first issue is who was the most influential Doctor, Patrick Troughton or Tom Baker?) and the welcome return of The Watcher (interestingly renamed Wotcha!).
My favourite article in this months edition is the feature on 2|Entertain's upcoming DVD releases for this year. So prepare the following VHSs for retirement as they will soon be replaced by the following shiny, VAM filled, DVDs: The Mutants, The Ark, Kinda & Snake Dance, Revisitations 2 (Carnival of Monsters, Resurrection of The Daleks & The Seeds of Death) Planet of the Spiders, Spearhead from Space & Terror of The Autons, Frontios, The Awakening & The Gun Fighters, Paradise Towers, Revisitations 3 (The Tomb of The Cybermen, The Robots of Death & The Three Doctors), The Sun Makers and finally Day of The Daleks. Very fired up for these...
Most excitingly (at least for me) the magazine is now officially licensed by the BBC and so carries the official Doctor Who logo as a seal of authenticity, but is published independently by Panini. The changes seem to be largely aesthetic, there are some rather unsubtle adverts for other panini magazines, but by and large I like the changes and and think that overall the fans and readers will be happy...
